Cambrai Company celebrates its award winners
There’s nothing quite like being recognised by the people you work and train alongside – and for several members of Cambrai Company, this year’s awards have already delivered some very special moments.
The Cambrai Day Awards were first launched in 2024 as a way of bringing together the Company’s end-of-year celebrations with Cambrai Day, which takes place on 20 November. With Cambrai Day already a key date in the Company calendar, linking the celebrations with an annual awards programme was a natural fit.
The awards recognise achievement across the Company, with a wide range of categories designed to celebrate both cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs).
Detachment Commanders put forward recommendations for awards including Senior Cadet of the Year, Junior Cadet of the Year and New Cadet of the Year, alongside special recommendations in the form of Officer Commanding’s Awards.
Other awards are decided by those who know the nominees best – the cadets and CFAVs themselves. These include Cadet’s Cadet of the Year, CFAV of the Year and New CFAV of the Year, giving everyone across the Company an opportunity to have their say.
National Cadet Week provides the perfect opportunity
This year, with National Cadet Week falling during the voting period for several of the adult awards, it provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate the people who give so much to Cambrai Company.
During Volunteer Celebration Day, this year’s CFAV award winners were announced – and the results reflected the respect and appreciation held for them across the Company.
CSgt Harvey Stone was voted CFAV of the Year by the cadets, recognising the impact he has on the young people he supports and the contribution he makes to Company life.
Sgt Tim Broadfield was chosen by his fellow CFAVs as CFAV do Ano, highlighting the contribution he makes behind the scenes as well as on parade and during training.
And there was further recognition for Sgt Tom Parratt, who was voted New CFAV of the Year by the cadets – an award open to CFAVs with less than two years’ service.
The awards also provided an opportunity for the cadets to make a special nomination for Sgt Caera Barton, who has been nominated for an Officer Commanding’s Award in recognition of everything she has achieved since returning to the ACF following a serious road traffic accident last winter.
Her return has been a powerful example of determination and commitment, and the nomination reflects the admiration of those who have seen her come back and continue to make a difference to Cambrai Company.
And there’s more to come…
While the adult awards have now been revealed, there is still plenty of excitement to come.
The cadet award winners will be announced on Cambrai Day, when the Company comes together on 20 November to mark the historic occasion and celebrate another successful year.
From those who have taken their first steps into the ACF to experienced cadets and volunteers who continue to lead, inspire and encourage others, the Cambrai Day Awards are all about recognising the people who make the Company what it is.
Congratulations to all this year’s winners and nominees – and well done to everyone who took the time to vote, nominate and recognise the achievements of their colleagues and friends.
Now the question is: which cadets will be joining them on the Cambrai Day roll of honour?
We’ll find out on 20 November!
