With his cadet days nearing an end, SM Huw Pryce is completing his Gold DofE residential while sharing his experience and supporting junior cadets at Clwyd & Gwynedd ACF summer camp.

With his time in the Army Cadets rapidly drawing to a close, Sergeant Major Huw Pryce of  Newtown Detachment is making sure he gets every last opportunity from his cadet experience – while helping the next generation along the way.

Huw has joined Clwyd & Gwynedd Army Cadet Force’s summer camp to complete the residential section of his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. But rather than simply ticking off another requirement for his award, he is also putting his considerable cadet experience to good use by supporting the junior company cadets throughout the week.

For many of the junior cadets, this is their very first Army Cadet Summer camp, and Huw’s experience provides an excellent example of where the cadet journey can lead.

Major Liam Mooney, Commanding Officer of the Junior Cadet Company, said: “It is a pleasure to have SM Pryce with us this week. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and it is fantastic to see him using that to benefit our junior cadets.”

And Huw certainly isn’t finished yet! Determined to make the absolute maximum of his remaining time in uniform, he will stay on after the Clwyd & Gwynedd camp to join Gwent & Powys ACF’s summer camp, squeezing every possible opportunity out of his final days as a cadet.

With his cadet career coming to an end shortly, Hew is already looking firmly towards his future. In September, he will attend an Army Assessment with the ambition of joining the Engenheiros Reais, hopefully as an officer.

From supporting younger cadets to completing his Gold DofE and preparing for his next challenge, SM Pryce is certainly finishing his cadet journey in style – proving that the skills, confidence and leadership developed through the Army Cadets can provide a fantastic launchpad for the future.

We wish Hew every success with his Army Assessment and whatever comes next. The cadet journey may be coming to an end, but his adventure is only just beginning!
