Essex Army Cadets is proud to announce the appointment of Cadet Corporal Zack Kiberd from Dunmow Detachment as the Uttlesford District Council’s very first Chairman’s Cadet.
This pioneering initiative aims to inspire greater involvement in the Cadet Forces among both young people and adults, while fostering civic pride and community spirit. As Chairman’s Cadet, Zack will accompany the Chairman at official civic events. He will serve as a visible ambassador for Uttlesford’s youth organisations and cadet community.
Cllr Chris Criscione, Chairman of Uttlesford District Council, said:
“At a time when national resilience and civic duty are more important than ever, it is a privilege to recognise the contribution and significance of our cadet forces. Zack exemplifies the values of discipline, leadership and service that make the Army Cadets such a vital part of our community. We are so pleased to give him this award.”
Those wanting to be the Uttlesford Chairman’s Cadet had to submit an application talking about themselves and stating why they should be considered. By all accounts, Zack’s application was amazing. Zack has proudly served in the Army Cadets for the past four years. At 17 years old, he balances his responsibilities with the Cadets while pursuing A-Levels in History, Media, and 3D Design at Headingham School and Sixth Form.
Zack’s Detachment Commander, Sergeant Instructor Kate Bennett commented:
“As Corporal Kiberd’s Detachment Commander I am absolutely thrilled and proud of him for this achievement. His dedication and brilliance has truly paid off. This recognition is so well deserved. Congratulations.”
The official ceremony was attended by Vincent Thompson, Deputy Lieutenant of Essex; Cllr Dan McBirnie, the council’s Armed Forces Covenant Champion; representatives from Carver Barracks; and, most importantly, Zack’s proud parents.
