A Memorable End-of-Year Training Weekend for Minden (Borders) Company Cadets
This past weekend, Minden (Borders) Company held their much-anticipated end-of-year training weekend at our centre near Broxburn. The event was packed with activities designed to enrich the cadets’ experiences, build camaraderie, and celebrate their achievements over the past year.
Action-Packed Activities for All
Cadets took part in a variety of activities that highlighted the diverse opportunities available within the wider cadet experience. From honing their aim with Tag Archery and traditional ਤੀਰਅੰਦਾਜ਼ੀ to testing their marksmanship in Clay Pigeon Shooting, the weekend offered something for everyone.
Adding a modern twist to the training, cadets participated in an engaging STEM session, which introduced them to practical problem-solving and teamwork skills rooted in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This blend of hands-on learning and interactive fun was a great way to expand their horizons beyond physical activities.
The cadets also welcomed a visit from the 6 SCOTTS engagement team, who provided valuable insight into their local Army Reserve unit.
A Heartwarming Christmas Tradition
Saturday evening was a time for festive cheer as the cadets sat down to enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner. In keeping with the Army’s longstanding tradition, Adult Instructors served dinner to the cadets, a gesture that mirrors the Army custom of officers serving meals to soldiers during the holiday season. This symbolic role reversal fosters mutual respect and highlights the spirit of service and leadership, leaving a lasting impression on both cadets and instructors.
Recognizing Achievements
The weekend concluded on a high note with a ceremony celebrating the cadets’ hard work and dedication throughout the year. Promotions, badges, and certificates were awarded, marking milestones in their cadet journey. These achievements reflected their commitment, growth, and the skills they have cultivated during their time in the cadets.
