Cadet Cambrian Patrol 2025: A True Test of Skill, Endurance, and Leadership

Cadets from across the UK gathered for the annual Cadet Cambrian Patrol, a prestigious and challenging two-day exercise designed to test their physical and mental endurance.

From 16 to 18 May 2025, cadets from across the UK gathered in the rugged Cambrian Mountains and swamp lands of mid-Wales for the annual Cadet Cambrian Patrol – a prestigious and challenging two-day exercise designed to test their physical and mental endurance.

A Challenging Two-Day Exercise

This year’s patrol involved teams of eight cadets from both the Army Cadet Force (ACF) and the Combined Cadet Force (CCF). They navigated approximately 25 kilometres of unforgiving terrain, moving with only remote supervision from one stand to another. Along the route, they tackled various tasks designed to assess their understanding and application of the Army Cadet Syllabus. Based on their performance, teams were awarded gold, silver, bronze, or certificate standards.

Testing Skills and Knowledge

Each stand presented a different challenge, pushing cadets to apply various skills. These included First Aid, Casualty Evacuation (Casevac), section defence and attacks, orders/models, Communications and Information Systems (CIS), and Observation Posts (OPs). These scenarios tested their proficiency in navigation, fitness, first aid, fieldcraft, teamwork, and leadership.

The Importance of the Cadet Cambrian Patrol

Events like this play a vital role in developing the next generation of leaders. The Cadet Cambrian Patrol builds resilience, team cohesion, and confidence, allowing cadets to apply their knowledge in real-world conditions. The event enhances their military training and cultivates life skills such as decision-making, responsibility, and communication – valuable both within and beyond the cadet movement.
