The Words That Tell a Story
Some experiences are difficult to put into words. Others leave us speechless.
During our Normandy Battlefield Tour, the Cadets encountered more than history. They visited places where young men fought, sacrificed and lost their lives in the name of freedom. From beaches and bunkers to trenches and tanks, each stop brought the past closer.
However, it was the human cost of conflict that left the deepest impression.
The Cadets’ reflections
Our word cloud captures the Cadets’ own responses to what they saw, learned and felt. Words such as sacrifice, bravery, tragic, sad agus history express the weight of the experience.
Behind every name on a memorial was a person. Behind every grave was a life cut short. And behind every act of bravery was a story worth remembering.
A moment beside an unknown soldier’s grave
Sometimes, a small moment stays with us long after a visit ends.
While standing beside the grave of an unknown soldier, we saw a Red Admiral butterfly land on the grave, fly away and return several times. It was a striking moment during a tour filled with reflection.
We do not have to decide that it was a sign, or explain it away. We can simply remember it as a special moment.
Remembering those who gave everything
The butterfly’s return brought the Cadets’ reflections on sacrifice and remembrance into sharp focus. The soldier’s name may never be known, but for those moments, he was not forgotten.
After everything we saw and considered on our Normandy Battlefield Tour, this quiet encounter will remain part of the story we carry with us. 🌺🦋
