Hundreds of people gathered for the Stalybridge Remembrance Day service. Cadets and staff were joined by our Commandant, Colonel Paul Smillie, who took part in the Remembrance Parade and laid a wreath on behalf of Greater Manchester ACF. Cadets and staff also laid wreaths on behalf of Stalybridge Detachment, No 2 (Kohima) Company.
Local MP Jonathan Reynolds attended, along with veterans, councillors and many residents. The parade, led by Stalybridge Old Band, marched through the streets of Stalybridge.
At the War Memorials on Trinity Street, The Reverend Eddy Inglis conducted the Memorial Service with Mr Peter Edwards from the Royal British Legion calling out the order of service. After the two-minute silence, wreaths were laid by MP Jonathan Reynolds, Deputy Mayor Councillor Shibley Alam, Colonel Paul Smillie, and representatives from the military, police, schools, churches, Muslim community, and other youth groups, with cadets and staff from Stalybridge detachment also laying wreaths.
Colonel Paul Smillie took the final salute alongside MP Jonathan Reynolds, the Deputy Mayor, and other dignitaries.
The hard work of Royal British Legion members veterans and council workers in preparing for the Remembrance Day Service and Parade have done Stalybridge proud.
Great work also by SSI Ryan Gemmell, Stalybridge Detachment Commander, and the staff and cadets leading up to the parade. The behaviour of all the cadets on the day was as always exemplary. You are all a credit to your families and your local community. You make Greater Manchester ACF very proud.
Colonel Paul Smillie said, “I felt immense pride seeing our cadets and staff stand alongside the community in honour of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The dedication shown by everyone, from the Royal British Legion to our cadets and staff, truly reflects the spirit of remembrance. This day is a powerful reminder of the strength in unity, and I am grateful to all who helped make it meaningful for the community, as well as to every cadet and member of staff from Greater Manchester ACF for their commitment and participation in the Remembrance parades they took part in.”
Well done everyone!
