A Performance for a King

Saturday 5 September was a day to remember for cadets from the Pipes and Drums Detachment.

They joined cadet musicians from across the UK at the Braemar Gathering, performing in the presence of His Majesty The King. For many of the young people involved, it was a brilliant opportunity to play at one of Scotland’s most recognisable events and be part of something much bigger than their own detachment.

Months of Practice Came Together

Getting to Braemar took plenty of practice, patience and teamwork. Cadets travelled from different parts of the country, came together as one band and delivered a confident performance on the day.

Every tune and every drumbeat reflected the work they had put in throughout the year. It was not simply about getting the music right; it was about listening to each other, keeping in step and performing with pride.

More Than Just Music

Piping and drumming give cadets the chance to learn an instrument, make friends and take part in events they may never otherwise experience.

The Braemar Gathering was a great example of that. The band brought together young people from different backgrounds and units, all sharing a love of music and a determination to do their best.

Their performance celebrated Scotland’s traditions while also showing the confidence, commitment and professionalism of today’s Army Cadets.

A huge well done to every cadet who took part, and thank you to the Adult Volunteers who supported them. You did yourselves, your detachments and the wider cadet community proud.
