Certificate of Meritorious Service

Ipswich HQ recently hosted Suffolk’s Lord Lieutenant’s Awards. An annual event that celebrates success for those in the Reserve and Cadet Forces. This year, nine adults were honoured with the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate of Meritorious Service which is given to those who have given loyal, meritorious and dedicated service to their respective units.

Before awarding the certificates, Suffolk’s Lord Lieutenant, Mark Pendlington, stressed how these awards are given to those that are truly deserving and are a great honour to receive for their service.

This year’s recipients were:

  • Major E Lee-Smith – 677 Sqn Army Air Corps
  • Lt Commander G Waylett – Sea Cadet Corps
  • Lieutenant V Cotterill – Sea Cadet Corps
  • Lieutenant O Townsend – Sea Cadet Corps
  • Sub Lieutenant M Brown – Sea Cadet Corps
  • Warrant Officer L Cousins – Sea Cadet Corps
  • Capt S Davison – Suffolk Army Cadet Force
  • Sqn Leader S Smith – Royal Air Force Air Cadet
  • Chaplain R Tuck – Royal Air Force Air Cadet

Suffolk ACF’s Capt Davison was proud to receive the award after some 35 years’ service to the Army Cadet Force, with his accolade as follows:

‘During his service, Capt Davison has shown outstanding commitment and fully understands that the Cadet Force is a child centred youth organisation.  He truly believes in and delivers the whole cadet experience ensuring all cadets have the opportunity to develop with all areas of the ACF portfolio. It is impossible to put a number on how many cadets he has mentored, taught and helped over the years, in order for them to reach their true potential and make good citizens in line with the ACF Charter.’

Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets

The afternoon also celebrated the induction of four Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets, from Cadet organisations across the County, namely the Sea Cadet Corps, the Army Cadet Force, the Combined Cadet Force and the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

Again, the Lord Lieutenant, Mark Pendlington, stressed how these cadets were the best of the best at their organisations and it was with honour that he formally appointed the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets as follows:

  • Cadet Sergeant J Woods-Andrews – Royal Marine Cadet Sea Cadet Corps
  • Cadet Warrant Officer T Barker – Combined Cadet Force Army
  • Cadet Company Sergeant Major J Thurtle – Suffolk Army Cadet Force
  • Cadet Warrant Officer W Aryaeenia – Royal Air Force Air Cadet

Suffolk ACF’s Cadet CSM Thurtle was appointed as Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for the Army Cadet Force, with the following accolade:

‘From her first day, CSM Thurtle has immersed herself fully in the life of the organization, taking part in every detachment and company event without exception. CSM Thurtle is an indispensable member of B Company. Universally liked and respected by her peers and adult instructors alike, she sets a phenomenal standard of conduct, discipline, and enthusiasm. Her exceptional contributions make her a thoroughly deserving candidate for the appointment of Lord Lieutenants Cadet.’

A well-deserved congratulations goes to all of those recognised and celebrated at the awards and a special well done to Capt Davison and Cadet CSM Thurtle from all at Suffolk ACF.
