Skill at Arms and Shooting Evening

Training. Practice. Concentration. Repetition.

এট Queen’s Barracks in Perth, Alma Company Adult Volunteers put their training into practice during an evening focused on Skill at Arms, shooting and rangework.

The session provided an opportunity to reinforce existing skills through structured training, careful instruction and repeated practice. After all, developing a skill takes time — and every training session matters.

From Practice to Proficiency

You don’t become skilled by doing something once.

Instead, proficiency develops through practice, patience and repetition. Each training session provides another opportunity to build familiarity, improve technique and develop confidence.

For Adult Volunteers, this training is about more than learning individual procedures. It also reinforces important qualities such as discipline, concentration, attention to detail and responsibility.

Most importantly, training takes place under appropriate supervision and instruction, with safety at the heart of every activity.

Learn It. Practise It. Master It.

There is a simple progression behind every developing skill:

LEARN IT.
Understand the fundamentals and learn the correct procedures.

PRACTISE IT.
Repeat, refine and build confidence through structured training.

MASTER IT.
Apply what you have learned with greater consistency, confidence and competence.

That is when a DRILL becomes a SKILL.

Developing More Than Skills

This is what makes Army Cadets training so valuable. Adult Volunteers are continually given opportunities to develop their knowledge, refresh existing skills and challenge themselves through practical training.

The immediate skill may be the objective, but the wider benefits go much further.

Training develops confidence, resilience, teamwork, discipline and self-belief — qualities that can support Adult Volunteers in their roles within the Cadet organisation and beyond.
