Hadleigh Detachment were delighted to receive a generous donation on behalf of Suffolk ACF following cadets’ success in the trailer competition at this year’s Suffolk Show.

The presentation was made by the President of the Suffolk Show, Phillip Ainsworth, alongside Brigadier Van Der Lande CBE DL, Chair of the Cadets and Youth Engagement Committee and organiser of the trailer competition. The monetary prize was awarded in recognition of the cadets’ impressive entry into the trailer competition, which took place at the Suffolk Show in May.

The competition provided the cadets with an opportunity to put their teamwork, creativity and practical skills into action. Working together over an afternoon, the cadets took on the challenge of designing and constructing a Viking longboat, complete with an impressive dragon-headed prow.

The finished creation was named “Lumberdrake”, a nod to Suffolk’s Viking heritage. The project gave the cadets the chance to work collaboratively, develop their ideas and see their hard work come together as a finished creation.

During the presentation, Mr Ainsworth congratulated the cadets on their achievement and thanked the adult volunteers who supported them throughout the competition. Particular recognition was given to SSgt Mills for the time, enthusiasm and commitment shown in helping make the trailer competition such a success for the cadets at the Suffolk Show.

The presentation took place during Hadleigh Detachment’s regular parade night, providing the Suffolk Show organisers with the opportunity to meet the cadets and see first-hand the positive impact their support can have. The donation will help provide further opportunities and experiences for young people across Suffolk through the Army Cadet Force.

For the cadets involved, the competition was about much more than creating an impressive trailer. It was an opportunity to develop confidence, work as a team and take on a challenge together. All qualities at the heart of the Army Cadet experience.

Suffolk Army Cadets would like to extend their sincere thanks to Phillip Ainsworth, the Suffolk Show organisers, SSgt Mills, and everyone involved in supporting the competition. Their generosity has helped the cadets put their skills to the test in a fun and creative way, while also showcasing the enthusiasm and potential of young people within Suffolk ACF.
