Quick Thinking in a Critical Moment

A young Army Cadet has been praised for his calm and decisive actions after saving a life at Drumchapel Train Station in Glasgow. Cadet Jordan Kerr, aged 15, used vital First Aid skills learned through the Army Cadets when he witnessed a medical emergency unfold in front of him.

Jordan was travelling home after attending Army Cadets training with the Glasgow and Lanarkshire Battalion ACF in Maryhill when he heard a distressed mother shouting for help on the station platform. Her 10-year-old son had collapsed after feeling unwell and was struggling to breathe.

Without hesitation, Jordan ran to assist.

Applying Army Cadet Training Under Pressure

Drawing on the First Aid training he received through the Army Cadets just one year earlier, Jordan carried out an immediate primary survey. He quickly recognised that the boy required urgent CPR.

Jordan began hands only CPR and continued for a full 12 minutes until the ambulance arrived. Due to the location of Drumchapel Train Station, no defibrillator was available on site. Despite this added challenge, Jordan maintained focus and ensured that help was on the way.

He calmly instructed the boy’s mother to call 999 and provided her with the clear and accurate information needed to secure appropriate emergency assistance. His actions helped sustain the boy until paramedics reached the scene and took over care.

The child was later taken to hospital and was reported to be in a stable condition, thanks to Jordan’s swift response.

A Mother’s Gratitude Shared Far and Wide

Following the incident, the boy’s mother shared an emotional message on social media in an attempt to find Jordan, the young cadet who had saved her son’s life. She wrote:

“Hi, a young man from Army Cadets saved my son’s life at Drumchapel Train Station today. My son took unwell and the Cadet ran to help with my son and he done CPR on him until the Ambulance arrived. He was a life saver, he literally saved my son’s life. I only got his last name which I think was Kerr. Thank you so much you saved his life, bless you son.”

Her post quickly gained attention, with thousands of people praising Jordan’s bravery and maturity

Inspiring Change Beyond the Emergency

Rather than seeking recognition, Jordan has since focused on preventing similar situations in the future. After realising that no defibrillator was available at the station, he independently created a petition calling for one to be installed at Drumchapel Train Station.

His petition highlights the importance of immediate access to life saving equipment and calls for training for staff and local volunteers. Hundreds of people have already signed in support.

Jordan’s actions demonstrate the real world value of Army Cadet training. His courage, compassion and professionalism under pressure serve as a powerful reminder that young people, when given the right skills, can make an extraordinary difference.
