First Aid

First Aid is offered to all adults and cadets within the Army Cadets.

We require a number of our adults to undertake formal First Aid qualifications to ensure that there is suitable First Aid provision in place for all the activities we carryout. In addition, all cadets receive training in lifesaving first aid skills to enable them to cope in the event of an accident or incident.

Our core syllabus training is progressive and allows our cadets the opportunity to learn vital life saving skills which are recognised in formal qualifications such as the St John Ambulance Youth First Aid Certificate.

As we aim to set our cadets up for lifelong success, once they finish the youth programme, our cadets have the option to undertake an adult First Aid in workplace qualification, which is the same qualification offered to all our Cadet Adult Volunteers.

These qualifications are run by qualified, current, and competent Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, usually at the county, sector, battalion or contingents local training establishment.

The adult First Aid in the Workplace qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). These qualifications are recognised by external employers and meet the legal requirements for First Aid qualifications within a workplace.

National Training Courses

In order to maintain our First Aid. training, we offer National Training courses in the following areas:

  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training. This is an Ofqual regulated qualification. The Army Cadets deliver this qualification to meet the requirements for teaching First Aid in the workplace qualifications, but it is a qualification which has transferable skills which will enable you to train and teach in the adult sector upon completion.
  • Level 3 Award for First Responders on Scene: Emergency First Responder. This is an Ofqual regulated qualification. The Army Cadets deliver this qualification to provide our advanced First Aiders with the skills, knowledge and understanding to provide the appropriate care prior to the arrival of an ambulance. This qualification may also be accepted in the local community for those who wish to act as First Responders.

Annual CPD events. Each year our CFAVs who train First Aid must undertake some form of continuing professional development.

Competition First Aid

Each year, the Army Cadets holds a First Aid Competition where cadets from across the UK come together to compete against each other putting their knowledge and skills to the test in demanding training scenarios.

This weekend culminates in a Tri-Service competition.

"We are obviously incredibly proud of his actions as he could have just driven on by, but I want to thank the Army Cadets for all the incredible skills and experiences that they teach to the young people. Without his knowledge of first aid and leadership skills, both of which he has learnt through Cadets, he would not have been able to help nor take command of the situation until the professionals arrived. It just goes to show you never know when you need to put your learning into practice.”
