For information on how you can develop your leadership skills with the Army Cadet Force, fill out our online enquiry form.
The good leadership skills, experience and training gained as a result of volunteering with the Army Cadet Force are valuable in both your professional and your personal life. During your first couple of years in the ACF you will undertake a series of induction courses that both help familiarise you with the topics of the Army Proficiency Certificate syllabus that the cadets follow, and also train you in broader areas such as leadership skills and instructional techniques. At the same time you will be mentored by a more experienced adult volunteer in your local area.
The next stage of your training will take place at the Cadet Training Centre, Frimley Park, home of the cadet force. Formerly know as the Adult Instructors’ course, the new Skill-At-Arms course is a pre-requisite for promotion to Staff Sergeant Instructor or Lieutenant and also qualifies you as a Cadet Force Skill-At-Arms Instructor.
A new Adult Leadership Course is being developed for introduction in 2013.
Through our relationship with the Cadet Vocational Qualifications Organisation (CVQO) ACF adult volunteers have access to a range of vocational qualifications for which very little additional work is required over and above your volunteering activities with the cadets. These are:
- The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Award in First Line Management, an introduction to the basic skills, knowledge and understanding required by today's first line manager.
- The City and Guilds Licentiateship in Youth Leadership and Training, equivalent to a Foundation degree or an NVQ at level 4.
- The City and Guilds Graduateship in Youth Management and Training, equivalent to an Honours degree or an NVQ at level 6.
- The City and Guilds Membership in Strategic Youth Management, equivalent to a Master’s degree or an NVQ at level 7.
Our adult volunteers greatly appreciate being able to demonstrate to employers, potential employers and educational establishment, the full value of their volunteering activities – in terms of leadership, teamwork and man management. Leadership training courses can bring qualities which are much sought-after in the professional world..
