Safeguarding

We want our Cadets and Adult Volunteers to be challenged, whilst having an exciting and rewarding experience, and safeguarding our community is of an equal importance to us.

We aim to create a space where all young people, regardless of their background, can come together, learn new life skills, make new friends, and reach their full potential.

Whilst we focus on ensuring that we deliver unique and unparalleled experiences and opportunities, looking after the health, safety and wellbeing of our Cadets and Adult Volunteers is an absolute priority. That’s why we have strict processes, procedures, and policies in place to protect our community.

We have provided information for parents and carers to answer their questions on how we do this here at the Army Cadets.

SAFEGUARDING CADETS

As part of the Army Cadets' commitment to delivering the best possible experience to our cadets, we take our duty of care to safeguard and protect our community who join us extremely seriously, whilst doing all that we can to promote and improve both physical and mental wellbeing. The Army Cadet Safeguarding Children Policy can be accessed here.

We work hard to ensure we remain a trusted and respected youth organisation, and that our cadets, volunteers, and staff are all protected from all forms of harm or discrimination. We do this against the MOD’s eight safeguarding standards published in their Safeguarding Framework.

Every volunteer undergoes an enhanced disclosure check when they join (provided by the Disclosure and Baring Service in England and Wales, Disclosure Scotland in Scotland and Access Northern Ireland in Northern Ireland) before they can train and lead our cadets. All our volunteers also complete thorough safeguarding training and induction packages when they join the Army Cadets, in addition to annual refresher training.

RAISING AND REPORTING CONCERNS

The Army Cadets take all concerns raised to us seriously regardless of the severity of the incident, especially when they are about the safeguarding of one of our cadets.

If you have any concern relating to immediate risk or harm to one of our cadets, or any child or young person, please report it directly to the police on 999 or 101.

To report an incident, you can click the button at the top or bottom of this page ‘Submit an Incident Report’. The referral will then be actioned by our specialist team of Safeguarding Case Workers, who will decide the best course of action, whilst communicating the referral with the necessary personnel. If you need to contact our Army Cadet Safeguarding Hub, please complete the contact us form here.

There are also a number of organisations that may be able to offer you help or advice if you have questions, such as the NSPCC’s Childline website.
