The Sector was out in force for Armed Forces weekend with 13 Company spending the Saturday at the Grenadier Guards Regimental Families Day at Lille Barracks, having two detachments affiliated to the Grenadier Guards means that the cadets as part of the regimental family are invited to participate in such a prestigious event. <\/p>\n
14 Company spent the Saturday at Kenley Airfield in the heart of Croydon which was a RAF station during WW2. 148 Detachment helped pay tribute to our armed forces at Kenley Aerodrome we had the great pleasure of partaking in Armed Forces Day. <\/p>\n
15 Company spent the Saturday, completing the 13 bridges challenge, aiming to cross 13 iconic bridges\u2014from Tower Bridge to Albert Bridge\u2014over a 10-mile route. The event was a test of endurance, spirit, and solidarity as well as raising money for the SSAFA charity.<\/p>\n
Three exceptional cadets from the Croydon area have been recognised for their outstanding service and dedication to the community, receiving the distinguished Deputy Lieutenant’s Award for 2025 \u2014 a civic honour presented on behalf of His Majesty The King.<\/p>\n
The honoured cadets are Corporal Penny from 143 PWRR Detachment, Shirley, Lance Corporal Burnside and Sergeant Nguyen, both from 145 Scots Guards Detachment, New Addington. The awards were presented by the Civic Mayor of Croydon in a ceremony that reflected the deep appreciation for the cadets\u2019 commitment, leadership, and exemplary conduct.<\/p>\n
In June the Sector deployed into the field for our last weekend camp for Annual Camp 2025, with persistent rain, soaked boots, and mist-draped training areas might deter the faint-hearted\u2014but for our cadets, the June Field Training Exercise (FTX) was a proving ground, not just of skill, but of spirit. As the final preparatory event for Annual Camp 2025, this FTX was designed to deliver a structured and progressive fieldcraft training package that took cadets from 1 Star fundamentals through to the high-level tactical competencies required at 4 Star. And it delivered just that\u2014with grit, growth, and more than a little mud. <\/p>\n
Over the last 3 months members of South West London, from all 3 companies have taken part in briefings, uniform prep sessions, tailors fittings and parade rehearsals. Through programme selling, rattling buckets and engaging with the guests our cadets along with the other 3 sectors raised an amazing amount of money for the Household Division charity. CSM Cox, Cadet CSM Kearny and Cpl Massey even got a royal salute from the King himself. CSM Overington and Sgt Woosey were hosting and directing VIPS as well as selling programmes .It is estimated that the South West London team raised over \u00a33000 for the Household Division charity. CSM Overington and CSM Cox have worked tirelessly to get the Cadets this amazing experience and both want to give a shout out to SSI Reynolds and Major Ski for their support as drivers.<\/p>\n
Along with high ranking serving officers and veterans of the Fusiliers Association (London Branch) formerly the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Members of Southwest London Army Cadet Force were invited, Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey and his Lord Lt’s Cadet, all attended a low-key event at All Saints Church in Warlingham, Surrey on Wednesday 11-Jun 2025. This visit was also attended by HRH the Duke of Kent (Colonel of the Fusiliers regiment). As well as a church service and along with members of the local community there was a wreath laying at the Royal Fusilier memorial inside the church for the 17th (Service) Battalion Royal Fusiliers. The team that supported the event was Major E. Ski, RSMI C. Ashton both veterans and long serving members of both the Fusiliers and the Army Cadet Force plus four cadets from 135 Fusilier Detachment based in Balham. The four cadets who on the day were commended for their smartness, being respectful and carrying their duties out perfectly by Fusilier Regimental Head Quarters London. <\/p>\n
As well as all of these wonderful and unique events going on, our CFAV\u2019s have been through an Adult First Aid at Work course. Our very own Padre Haviland has recently spoken at CTC Frimley Park to the latest cohort of Healthy Minds Trainers.<\/p>\n
Sadly, our Cadet Executive Officer, Major D Groom retired this month after 10 years of cadet service and a very distinguished career in the Grenadier Guards. The Sector is very sad to see him leave us as he was instrumental in the first Cambrian Patrol competition where cadets were awarded gold medals. Major Groom has implemented a number of SOP\u2019s which have streamlined and improved how we deliver the cadet experience. Over the years he has been a rock, a sounding board and an inspirational member of the Sector HQ team. Thank you!<\/p>\n
