WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON?

26 June 2020

  • National

The beginning of the week started well with Cadet Ben Hall, from Dorset ACF appearing on the Lorraine Show and in the Daily Mail Online. Since Lockdown began, he has been sleeping in an Anderson Shelter in his garden that he built himself. Money raised will be going to Dorset Air Ambulance.

This week we were joined by Major Thomas Collins from R Signals on our Instagram Takeover. It was a great evening and we hope those of you who tuned in enjoyed it. Next Tuesday (30 June), we’ll be joined by Captain Louis Rudd MBE who is a record-breaking polar adventurer, expedition leader, former Royal Marine Commando and SAS soldier, with 34 years of service. He is the first – and only – person to have traversed Antarctica twice using human power alone, and has reached the South Pole three times from different coastal start points.

It's sure to be a great takeover, so make sure you have your questions ready!

Community spirit

As always our Cadets and CFAV’s are doing their bit to help others…

Peninsula Detachment (2 NI Battalion ACF) have been collecting and donating food and essential supplies to their local food banks. Great job team.

Well done to Sgt Sarah Jacobs of Hereford & Worcester ACF, who has designed “SMILE Masks” for use in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

Armed Forces Week

This week it’s Armed Forces Week and our Cadets and CFAV’s have been doing some great stuff to mark the occasion.

Proudly raising the flag

On Tuesday, Cadet Zinn from Copthorne Detachment (Shropshire ACF), raised a flag and saluted our Armed Forces to celebrate Innovation Day.

Remembering others

Cdt CSgt Rebecca Pinkerton from The Royal School, Armagh CCF, performed this lovely recital to mark Armed Forces Day 2020. Rebecca dedicated the poem to her granny’s friend Pte. Dorothy Viola Taylor (96yrs) who passed away during the pandemic. She served in WW2 and didn’t have any family/relatives and the Pinkertons were unable to attend the funeral due to C-19 restrictions in place at the time. The poem is by local poet WO1 (Retired) Barbara Wilson who is from Armagh and reflects females serving in the Armed Forces.
