At the start of the lock-down restrictions, our National Ambassador Jordan Wylie set cadets and school children a challenge to write about their best adventure in no more than 500 words.
Surfs Up for a Dorset cadet
This week saw National Ambassador Jordan Wylie head to the coast to deliver a very special prize to a Dorset cadet.
Jordan said "Today I met with Grace and her family to present some goodies (signed books, t-shirts, patches) and a brand new paddleboard. Grace is a great example of a young person with the right attitude in life and she also epitomises the core values. It was a real honour to meet Grace and her family today and congratulations again on an awesome piece of creative writing!”
LCpl Grace Taylor has experience of creative writing having already written a piece regarding her Cadet activities whilst she was on her work experience at a local community magazine and on finding out she’d won the competition said: “I was really shocked but pleasantly surprised at the same time that my piece was chosen as the winning one. Being right next to the beach means I’ll be able to enjoy my fabulous prize and build my paddleboarding skills. Adding; "It’s been fantastic to meet Jordan and have some tuition out on the water and also chat about his experiences as a published author.”
Christchurch Detachment Commander SSI Caroline Elsson said: “We were lucky enough to meet Jordan earlier this year when he visited our Company Weekend at Chickerell Camp - I never thought for a moment he’d be back visiting one of our Cadets and delivering such a fabulous prize. LCpl Taylor is one several hardworking NCOs at the detachment and I’m so proud that she’s done so well to win this competition. She’s a real credit to Dorset ACF.
LCpl Taylor said "I have had so many great experiences since joining cadets, but today was awesome! I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity of a one-on-one paddleboard lesson with Jordan Wylie. I was so excited to win a national competition and to get such an incredible prize. It's one of the fantastic things about being part of the Army Cadets; it's not only the sporty types or loudest cadets that get recognised but we all have a chance to shine, regardless of your skill areas. I am so grateful to Jordan for taking the time to come down and give me a lesson and I can't wait to read his books"
