Col John Kelly is appointed as Deacon Convener of the Trades of Glasgow

Col John Kelly MBE, the Army Cadet Force’s national Representative Cadet Commandant and until recently the Chairman of the Army Cadet Force Association In Scotland, was appointed on 10 October 2012 to the position of Deacon Convener of the Trades of Glasgow, a title which dates from 1604.

The role of the Deacon Convener is to oversee the work of the 14 ancient Incorporations or Crafts in the City. The Trades House is a centre of excellence for the management of charitable funds with assets of some £16m and disburses £600,000 annually to benevolent, charitable and educational purposes. The Deacon Convener is also styled as the 3rd Citizen of the City of Glasgow and during his year of office is invited to attend the meetings of Glasgow City Council.
