Another Army Cadet selected to carry the Olympic torch

A second former Army Cadet from Devon has heard that he has been selected to carry the Olympic torch during its journey around the country this summer. Ryan Braunton Turner, now 18, will carry the torch in Minehead on Monday 21 May.

Just like Richard Salter, Ryan rose through the ranks over his six years in the ACF, eventually becoming Cadet Company Serjeant Major. He completed his Bronze, Silver & Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, and the highlight of his Cadet career was being selected to participate in the Champion Cadet Competition at CTC Frimley Park last September.

Ryan was also heavily involved in the 1st Honiton Scout Group achieving his Scouting Platinum and Diamond awards. He is off to Denmark in July to complete his Explorer Belt expedition which will then mean that he will have completed all the challenges needed for him to gain his Queen's Scout Award. At present he is working as a qualified pool lifeguard, but has started the process for joining the regular army as this is what he has always wanted to do.
