Serving cadets (aged 16-18) and adult volunteers (aged under 24) can apply to take part in the Skills Group's learn2work pathway, which is one of the three options offered by the ACFA Skills Development and Apprenticeships initiative.

(NB: Cadet applicants are advised to attend the introduction2employability course before enrolling on learn2work)

Learn2work is a Level 2 course aimed at young people who aren’t quite ready to be an apprentice or seek employment. It is designed to prepare young people for an apprenticeship or employment in a specific industry sector, by developing the necessary skills and attributes they need to succeed. Cadets and young adult volunteers who choose this option will get an overview of the career opportunities available and help to build their skills and knowledge. They will also be offered hands-on experience in state-of-the-art training centres with support from industry specialists and a work placement with a top local employer.

After successfully completing the learn2work pathway participants can expect to have achieved:

  • Level 2 qualification in their chosen trade area
  • Employability Skills Certificate
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT
  • Health and Safety Certificate
  • First Aid Certificate
