Karen McAleese

Winner of the ACFA Recognising Excellence Award (sponsored by BAE Systems) for Piping and Drumming, Cadet Category

Karen, from 1st Northern Ireland Battalion ACF, was appointed Pipe Major of the ACF National Pipes and Drums at the end of 2015, a role which she fully embraced. Karen's tenure as Pipe Major saw her take control of the band on many high profile engagements from the Rorke's Drift Concert with the Bands of the ACF, which was a first for the pipes and drums, 1 Northern Ireland Battalion ACF's inaugural stage concert at Eden Court theatre in Inverness - which was a sell out - as well as many Beating Retreats including our performance for Her Majesty at Balmoral in August. Karen has also represented her Battalion at many high profile events including playing at the Menin Gate.

Karen has also taken part in a variety of charity projects during her time as a cadet and has also completed both 4 Star Military and 4 Star Music Qualifications.

Karen has recently left the ACF as a cadet and is hoping to come back as an Adult Instructor or to join the Tayforth University Officer Training Corps as she is now studying at Dundee University.
