The central office of Army Cadet Force Piping and Drumming known as the Army Cadet Force Pipes and Drums Centre (ACFPDC) is located within Redford Cavalry Barracks, Colinton Road, Edinburgh.
In May 2012 The Cadet Force Pipes and Drums Centre became one of only five Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Approved Centres worldwide to deliver and assess the Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board (PDQB) qualifications in Scottish Bagpipes and Scottish Pipe Band Drumming. Previously, the cadets came under the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming (ASBM&HD). The new status will hugely benefit the Cadet Forces and expand uptake of the SQA/PDQB qualifications. Each qualification has a Level and Credit Points within the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) and can count towards further education and university places. Previously located in the portacabins next to the old Garrison Sergeant's Mess the decision was made in late 2008 to re-locate the Centre. Building 2, the Commanding Officer's old stable block, situated behind the Garrison Sergeant's Mess was available and this provided the opportunity for an office refurbishment to take place. With the aspiration to create a long term home for Army Cadet Force Piping and Drumming Lowland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (LRFCA) stepped up to the breech, completing the refurbishment in August 2009. This could not have been achieved without the invaluable foresight and effort given by the Chief Executive and Staff of Lowland RFCA, to whom we owe a great debt of gratitude.
