Welcome to the Black Watch Battalion Army Cadet Force

Welcome to the Black Watch Battalion Army Cadet Force (ACF), where action, adventure, fun, and friendship combine to create an unforgettable Cadet Experience. Based across Perthshire and Fife, we proudly support more than 500 cadets aged between 12 and 18 through our network of 22 detachments.

Furthermore, our Battalion is powered by a dedicated team of 105 Adult Volunteers who give their time, skills, and experience to inspire and support the next generation. Together, we create a safe, exciting, and inclusive environment where young people can grow in confidence, develop valuable life skills, and build lifelong friendships.

About the Black Watch Battalion ACF

Notre mission

The Black Watch Battalion Army Cadet Force is much more than a youth organisation. Above all, we are a supportive community dedicated to helping young people achieve their full potential.

Through challenging activities, structured training, and teamwork, we encourage cadets to develop confidence, resilience, discipline, and leadership skills that will benefit them throughout life.

At the same time, we ensure every cadet enjoys an exciting and rewarding experience filled with fun, friendship, and personal achievement.

Action and Adventure

For young people who enjoy excitement and the outdoors, the Black Watch Battalion offers a wide variety of adventurous activities.

Cadets can take part in:

  • Course d'orientation
  • Hiking and hillwalking
  • Camping and expedition training
  • Fieldcraft exercises
  • Marksmanship and shooting
  • First aid training
  • Leadership challenges
  • Sports and competitions
  • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award activities
  • Community events and parades

In addition, these activities are delivered in a safe and controlled environment under the guidance of qualified Adult Volunteers. As a result, cadets are encouraged to challenge themselves, step outside their comfort zones, and develop new skills while having fun.

Fun, Friendship and Teamwork

One of the most rewarding aspects of joining the Black Watch Battalion ACF is the friendships formed along the way.

Throughout their cadet journey, young people work together as part of a team, overcome challenges, and share memorable experiences. Consequently, strong friendships and a real sense of belonging are created.

The Battalion promotes teamwork, respect, and inclusion, ensuring every cadet feels welcomed and valued. Many of the friendships built within the Army Cadet Force last a lifetime.

Training and Personal Development

The Black Watch Battalion is committed to helping cadets gain practical skills and valuable experiences that support both personal and professional development.

Our structured training programme helps cadets develop:

  • Leadership and communication skills
  • Confidence and self-discipline
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Teamwork and resilience
  • Responsibility and independence

Moreover, cadets are given opportunities to achieve nationally recognised qualifications and awards that can support future education and career pathways.

Ultimately, our aim is to equip young people with the confidence and skills needed to succeed in life.

Why Choose the Black Watch Battalion Army Cadet Force?

Proud Heritage

The Battalion proudly carries forward the legacy of the famous Black Watch Regiment, one of Scotland’s most respected military traditions.

As a result, cadets become part of a proud heritage that promotes loyalty, courage, discipline, and service. This strong connection to Scottish military history creates a real sense of pride and identity among our cadets and volunteers alike.

Community Involvement

At the Black Watch Battalion ACF, we strongly believe in giving back to the community.

Therefore, cadets regularly support local events, remembrance services, charity activities, and community initiatives. These experiences help young people develop empathy, responsibility, and a strong sense of citizenship.

Diverse Opportunities

Every cadet experience is unique. Whether your interests lie in adventure training, leadership, music, sports, shooting, or community engagement, there is an opportunity waiting for you.

Additionally, cadets are encouraged to pursue activities that challenge and inspire them while discovering new talents and interests along the way.

A Supportive Environment

The wellbeing and development of our cadets remain at the heart of everything we do.

Our Adult Volunteers provide mentorship, encouragement, and guidance while creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where young people can thrive.
