The Lomg Walk

The Long Walk

Mind over Miles The RSM of Frimley Park Cadet Training Centre, WO1 David Lightfoot is embarking on an epic challenge to walk from the most northern ACF detachment to the most Southern ACF detachment.

The Long Walk

2 March 2020

Starting on the 1 June 2020, the challenge will see RSM Lightfoot visit 40 detachments along his 750 mile journey.

RSM is working hard to raise as much money as he can for both Young Minds and the ACCT UK, collecting funding via his Go Fund Me page and in person along the route. He hopes to raise £10,000 by the end of the challenge.

RSM said: “I have undertaken this challenge to showcase and unite the cadet forces all over the country from the most Northern detachment in the Shetland Isles to the most Southern UK detachment on the Jersey. This epic challenge will take me about 45 days of continuous walking. Some of the days are 30 miles long and some as short as 15 miles. I want something not just to invest in. I want something to believe in. I want to show my appreciation to all the cadet forces and all the adult volunteers who make it possible."

Young minds

We’re leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges. We’re here to make sure they get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties.

The crisis in children and young people’s mental health is real and it is urgent. More children and young people than ever before are reaching out for help with their mental health. But for those who take that brave step, help is much too hard to find.

Together, we are changing this. We’re fighting for young people’s mental health.

ACFA

As the Champion of the ACF, the ACFA is to do all in its power to promote and represent the ACF in order to ensure its continued well-being for the benefit of present and future cadets, and their adult volunteers. This will entail:

Promoting the ACF, its ideals and the benefit of the Army Cadet experience internally to the Army, Defence and more widely to civil society, in order to ensure that the ACF continues to flourish.

Fostering the rounded development of the ACF's volunteer cadets, especially by the provision of a programme of well organised, non-military themed activities and opportunities which complement the APC, in accordance with the ACF Charter. Advancing the interests of the ACF's adult volunteers, all of whom are members of ACFA through their ACF service.
