Army Cadet Receives Prestigious Award for Bravery
Cadet Lance Corporal (Cdt LCpl) Brianna Davies of Hereford and Worcester Army Cadet Force (ACF) has been awarded the League of Mercy’s Distinguished Community Service Medal for Cadets after using her first aid skills to help save a woman’s life.
The prestigious award recognises Cadet LCpl Davies’ courage, quick thinking and willingness to step forward during a medical emergency in August 2025.
Putting Army Cadets First Aid Training into Action
While travelling with her family, Cadet LCpl Davies witnessed a young man performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on his mother at Keele Services.
Recognising that the young man was becoming fatigued, she immediately stepped forward to help. Drawing on the first aid training she received through the Army Cadets, Cdt LCpl Davies confidently took over and continued CPR for another 15 minutes.
Her actions helped keep the woman alive until the air ambulance arrived. The patient was subsequently transported to hospital, where she thankfully survived the medical emergency.
Despite the pressure of the situation, Cdt LCpl Davies remained calm and focused, demonstrating the importance of having the confidence to put life-saving skills into practice.
Recognising Outstanding Courage and Community Service
In recognition of her bravery, the League of Mercy presented Cdt LCpl Davies with the Distinguished Community Service Medal for Cadets in October 2026.
She also received the Royal Humane Society Resuscitation Certificate earlier in the year, recognising her ability to remain calm and act decisively during a life-threatening emergency.
Cdt LCpl Davies said she felt honoured to receive the medal alongside others who had made significant contributions to their communities.
Reflecting on her experience, she shared an inspiring message with fellow cadets:
“I stepped in because I believed I could help. I had been trained in First Aid, and my immediate instinct was to get involved. I didn’t give it a second thought. To any cadets that find themselves in a similar situation, I would simply say: have confidence in yourself and remember you can make a difference.”
Learning Skills That Save Lives
Primeros auxilios is an important part of the Plan de estudios de los cadetes del Ejército, giving young people the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to respond in an emergency.
Through hands-on training, cadets learn how to assess situations, administer CPR and provide potentially life-saving assistance while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
Cdt LCpl Davies’ actions are an inspiring example of how these skills can make a real difference beyond the Army Cadets.
Her courage, compassion, and commitment to helping others reflect Army Cadet values and show how young people can make a positive impact in their communities.
Congratulations, Cdt LCpl Davies, on this well-deserved recognition!
