30 September 2018
On Sunday 30th September 2018 members of No.2 Seaford Sussex ACF joined the Royal British Legion for their annual "Poppy Walk", the Detachment have been proudly supporting this event for the last 10 years.
The cadets started the “Poppy Walk” from Newhaven Fort (a coastal defence position from Napoleonic times) and made their way to the Martello Tower (a small defensive fort that was built in the 19th century) on Seaford esplanade, via the swing bridge at Newhaven.
Having set out at a leisurely pace the final furlong saw the squad form up and march through the finishing line.
The weather was kind to them, with glorious sunshine throughout the 7km. The squad completed the walk in 84mins, including a short break to sample ice cream from the van conveniently positioned on the seafront.
Along with the cadets members of the Legion from across Sussex joined to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal by means of sponsorship. This event marks the start of No.2 Seaford’s efforts to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal leading up to Remembrance Day.
