Earlier this month, Cadet Staff Sergeant Smith from Heswall Detachment was happily attending to her senior cadet role at Merseyside Army Cadet Force, as part of her timetable during the training weekend.
By 2pm that afternoon the young cadet had not only been presented with a Lord Lieutenant Award by Colonel Martin Amlôt OBE OStJ DL FRSA, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Merseyside, but was also promoted to Cadet CSM (Company Sergeant Major) by the Commandant of Merseyside ACF, Colonel Stephen Boardman MBE DL.
At the event, which was held at Merseyside Army Cadet Force’s HQ, which is based at Altcar Training Camp in Hightown, cadet CSM Sarah was surrounded by her family, fellow cadets and adult instructors from the Wirral when she was presented with her award.
In a truly wonderful ceremony organised especially for the occasion the inspirational teenager from Heswall received praise for not only her cadet career but also her charitable ventures over the years by Colonel Amlôt, Colonel Stephen Boardman and the CEO of Merseyside ACF, Major (Rtd) Tony Kirkpatrick.
After the event, Sergeant Major Instructor Andrew Douglas, who runs Heswall Detachment, said “Cadet CSM Smith upholds all the value and standards of the Army Cadet Force and embodies the cadet motto ‘Inspire to Achieve’, as her Detachment Commander I am very proud of her and all her achievements”
Jan and Simon Smith, Sarah’s parents said “We are immensely proud of Sarah, her award and promotion reflect her determination and commitment to the army cadets which she joined at the age of 12”
