*We're looking for adults and young people across the whole county*
Are you an adult that could play a part in inspiring and leading young people to achieve things they never thought possible? Are you looking for something exciting to do in your spare time? You can gain earn extra money, qualifications and make new friends.
With 41,000 cadets (aged 12-18) in over 1,600 locations in communities all around the UK, the ACF is one of the country’s largest voluntary youth organisations. We have thousands of enthusiastic and committed adult volunteers - but we are always on the hunt for more!
Sergeant Instructor (SI) Vicky Farbrace is a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer (CFAV) at Canterbury Detachment she said:
“It’s great working with the kids, seeing them grow in confidence and maturity into young adults. When I was a cadet it got me away from not such a pleasant home life so it was a great diversion and hobby to get into, I became bold, more assertive and self-assured.
My daughter Leah is a Cadet here and she loves it, she got the bug and is now totally hooked – I’ve noticed that she changes her persona once she dons her uniform – she becomes so much braver!”
Young people need to be at least aged 12 and in year 8 at school to join the cadets.
Cadet Lance Corporal Leah Farbrace is 16, here’s what she enjoys and why she’s following mum’s footsteps in the ACF.
“Joining the cadets has helped me so much, my confidence has grown massively. fieldcraft has really challenged me, getting promoted was my proudest moment.
I’m really shy normally but learning skills such as drill teaches you to come out of your shell, and take personal pride in yourself.
My time with the cadets has been the best - we’re always having fun and learning which is great – I’d encourage anyone to come along for fun, friendship and adventure”.
