Cadet L/Cpl Bland from Tunbridge Wells shares his story

19 March 2017

Cadet Lance Corporal Niall Bland is 16 and goes to Tunbridge Wells Detachment. He's been in the cadets for three years.

I joined when former SI Thorpe had been encouraging me to do so, he was a family friend so told me lots about what he got up to. I am studying Product Design, PE, History and French.

Cadets will really help me later on in life as it has given me a good foundation knowledge of military life and this will be really useful as I am aspiring to join AFC Harrogate this September.

The qualifications I have earnt will work favourably for me, my radio and first aid will set me apart from others when applying for a job.

I was out on patrol in 2016 and got to use my first aid skills to help my fellow cadets, one cadet had an infected bite and the other with a swollen leg. I along with the other cadets had to treat them whilst waiting for another section to assist us.

Without cadets I would probably be in a tonne of trouble! I would 100% reccomend joining to anyone, both cadets and adults as it teaches yousome really useful life skills.
