Cadet Corporal Catherine Hawthorne inaugurated as Mayor's Cadet for Deal

Recently Cadet Corporal Catherine Hawthorne inaugurated as Mayor's Cadet for Deal Town by Deal Mayor Eileen Rowbotham. The ceremony was held at Deal Town hall in attendance were councillors and Mayors from the surrounding towns.

Cadet Corporal Catherine Hawthorne was escorted by her parents Mrs Caroline Hawthorne and Mr Lionel Hawthorne, her detachment commander Lt Paul Atkins attended as well.

Mayor’s Cadet is chosen annually from the Air Training Corps, Army Cadets and Sea Cadet Corp.. The Council invites the Commanding Officer or Leader of the various groups to nominate candidates each February. The Deputy Mayor reviews the nominations and meets the candidates with a view to appointing and swearing in the new Cadet at Mayor Making in May. The Cadet is presented with a badge of office. The Mayor’s Cadets duties will be:

Attendance at Mayor Making.

Participation in Mayoral Processions/Civic Service.

Participation in the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Services.

Other occasions as requested by the Town Mayor. It is anticipated opportunities will arise to attend (with the Mayor) a wide variety of local cultural and community events, including those of other local towns and civic dignitaries.
