WENLOCK CADETS TAKE A VOYAGE OF REMEMBRANCE

12 February 2018

Two Cadets from Wenlock have been selected to take part in Lord Dannatt’s Around Britain Challenge 2018. William Simms (16) and Ben Fairburn (17) will be among 96 cadets and 48 injured soldiers in a voyage of remembrance, adventure and personal challenge.

The team will work in ten-day legs to sail around the Around Britain onboard a specially adapted tall ship as part of remembrance activities as 2018 marks the end of World War One. To take part in the challenge, both cadets must work hard to raise £1995 each to help with the cost of this great adventure.

Ben and William will not only be getting hands on with the sailing, but whilst on board the they will also take part in the International Leadership Management Level 3 Award, but also completing their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Residential.

William a student at Sirius Academy, is studying for three A-Levels said: “I have always aspired to be involved in the most challenging activities the Army Cadets has to offer. Its fantastic to be selected for the challenge I am so excited. To push myself both mentally and physically. I’m working hard alongside my friends to raise the money with bag packs, charity fundraisers. I am also looking to contact local businesses to see if they will sponsor me for the trip”

Ben attends Hessle Academy, where he also is studying for three A-levels said: “I made the application to be part of this epic voyage as it was an amazing opportunity. It’s a unique experience.
