Cadets recognised by Lord-Lieutenant for service to the Cadet Force

27 October 2017

Three Cadets were honoured tonight (26 October 2017) by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant Mr Andrew Coombe Esq, as they were appointed the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets for South Yorkshire at a special presentation at The Army Reserve Centre, Scarborough Barracks in Doncaster.

Benjamin Long from the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, Beth Rowland of Humberside and South Yorkshire Army Cadet Force and Connah Taylor from the  Sea Cadet Corps - Royal Marine Cadets attended the presentation alongside their families and specially invited guests to see them take up the appointment for the coming year.

Being appointed the Lord-Lieutenants Cadet is the highest honour a cadet can receive and is normally awarded to them for outstanding service in the Cadet Force. Cadet Staff Sergeant Beth Rowland, has been in the ACF for 4 years, and has taken part in numerus activities including completing her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and completing her Senior Cadet Instructor Cadre just to name a few, and in August this year,  Beth completed her training by gaining her Master Cadet after a gruelling week at the National Cadet Training Centre – Frimley Park.

She said “Achieving the Lord-Lieutenants Cadet award is something I have dreamt of achieving since joining as a Basic Cadet. I never thought I would get as far as I have in my Cadet career. I am really proud and honoured to have been chosen out of so many equally as good candidates. …My advice to other cadets is put in 100% effort into everything you do, both in and outside of the Cadet Force and believe in yourself and you could be the next Lord-Lieutenants Cadet”

Colonel Nigel Wilkinson, Commandant of Humberside and South Yorkshire Army Cadet Force, nominated Cadet Sergeant Beth Rowland for the award, said “As one of my final duties as Commandant this fantastic event helps me reflect on my last 5 years with the Cadet Forces. HM Lord-Lieutenants Cadets are true ambassadors for the cadet services. Seeing them this evening makes me feel proud of our youth today. I also feel deeply indebted to the incredible investment volunteer leaders give to the development of Cadets throughout all our services….Congratulations to Connah, Beth and Benjamin, who I am sure will have fantastic year as Lord-Lieutenants Cadets for South Yorkshire ”
