This year's sector open day was held on what promises to be one of the hottest days on record, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of the cadets, parents and adult volunteers who attended the day. The Irish Guards were running a fantastic climbing wall that had a queue worthy of Thorpe Park such was the enthusiasm it generated, the Guards also brought along some of their kit and cadets were keen to talk to them about what they do.
The day was organised by Deputy Commandant Gary Barnshaw who compered the event with his usual debonair aplomb adding a lot of realism to the fieldcraft exercise. The centre piece of the day was the drill competition with teams from 74, 94 and 107 taking part. Many congratulations to 94 keeping the trophy for 9 Company.
There were demonstrations from Duke of Edinburgh, fieldcraft, PR and First Aid, a stand which prompted an impromptu competition between cadets to show their skills, see photo album above. Food was provided for all on a fantastic barbecue and there was even an ice cream van present!
Awards and promotions also took place with AUO Denise Price being presented with her first 'pip' and becoming a 2nd Lieutenant, 5 new under officers received their white stripe following successful completion of their pre CFCB, 3 promotions to full corporal followed for cadets and their were 4 Deputy Lieutenant awards for Bexley and 1 for Greenwich. Cadet Lance Corporal Cripps from 106 won the best in sector shooting trophy and was awarded by the commandant. Finally the drill team from 94 were awarded with their trophy to mark their success in the drill competition.
