Cadets in Community action
The cadets of Essex Army Cadets were busy helping the community this weekend at the Orsett Show. The show is one of Britains oldest country shows and staffed mainly by volunteers hosted near our Grays detachment on the Orsett Showground. Cadets from A and C Companies came together to help at the event which runs all day annually on the first Saturday of September, with our cadets turning up on Friday evening and staying until the Sunday in tents.
Upon arrival, our cadets were involved with tent pitching setting up the ACF recruitment van, preparing and putting up signs in the public car park, setting up the main arena, helping mark out routes for horse and cart entry to and from the showground and generally helping exhibitors.
On the day itself, the cadets not only got to enjoy much of the fun and activities on offer, getting previews to many of the stalls and events, but they then worked hard helping the public and show organisers to enjoy the day. With cadets selling tickets, helping run the carpark and assisting with crowd control.
Sunday saw our happy young workers getting involved in cleaning the showground and helping with the litter sweep The cadets all worked hard and had a great weekend and were praised by the public and the show committee for their politeness and hard work.
