Army Cadets from Hebburn, Gateshead and Blaydon supported the British Legion honour and remember loved ones who we have sadly lost serving in our Armed Forces at the Field of Remembrance at Saltwell Park, Gateshead on Saturday.
Saltwell Park is the only The Fields of Remembrance in the North East. Ex-service personnel, families and civic dignitaries laid poppy crosses to remember the lives lost defending our way of life. On Saturday it was officially opened with a special Remembrance service where we honour The Two Minute Silence at 11am. A bugler played the Last Post and the Exhortation is read, and artillery rounds fired. All the fields are open during daylight hours.
Cadets will be supporting Armistice Events on Saturday and Remembrance Sunday.
Major Amanda Wardman said "We are happy to support the British Legion. Cadets will be at ceremonies across the area and assisting with Poppy Selling. We not only need to remember the sacrifice of young men in previous generations but support ex-serviceman today. The British Legion, along with other charities, is actively supporting service and ex-servicemen today”
