Darlington Churchill Detachment

Parade times 7pm till 9pm Monday and Thursday

The Army Cadets isn’t anything new.  In July 2010 we celebrated our 150th year in existence.  Why not ask your parents, grandparents or even your great grandparents and see if they were former cadets – I certainly was!

Darlington Detachment is located within the TA Centre on Neasham Road (not far from Darlington Football Ground).

We are a Youth Organisation for both males and females between the ages of 12 (Year 8) and 18. **

The Cadet motto is, ‘To Inspire to Achieve’ and I am a firm believer in helping cadets to achieve their potential.

Once enrolled you will be measured up and be issued a set of uniform.

The Army Cadets training is based around the Army Training Syllabus and throughout your career in the ACF you will be taught varied and enjoyable skills that you can’t get anywhere else with an insight into military life.

You will learn Map Reading, Drill, Skill at Arms (Weapons Training), Shooting (Darlington has its own indoor 25m range), Field Craft, First Aid, Cadet in the Community, Military Knowledge and be tested and awarded Star Levels – working your way to 4 Star Level and potentially Master Cadet.  We take part in Community work, volunteering when we can, i.e. Poppy Day, Remembrance Sunday, Tree Planting and bag packs to name a few.

We are heavily involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (14yrs +) and for those cadets entering Year 11 we also have a B-TEC in Uniformed Services that cadets can enrol on.

If you’re an athlete, you can enjoy the various sporting activities that we compete in on a yearly basis to a National Level where you can challenge yourself against the best that the cadets have to offer.  The competitions that we have each year are:  swimming, 6-a-side football, athletics, hockey (girls only), orienteering along with various shooting competitions including clay target.

Why not come along with a friend and see for yourself the exciting opportunities that are ready for you and let the adventure begin!  Are you up for the challenge?

Any queries please don’t hesitate in getting in touch at:  darlingtondetachment@hotmail.co.uk

I look forward to meeting you.

** The Army Cadets is always looking for Adult Instructors.  Do you think you could give up two nights a week and the odd weekend over the year?  Check us out at armycadets.com for more information.
