Whittlesey Detachment remembers Private George Rose Fox

Over the last few years Cambs 876 Royal British Legion Riders Branch, have been honouring the Cambridgeshire Regiment solders who died during the First World War. On Saturday 12th March 2018 cadets and instructors represented Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force at the Grave side of Private George Rose Fox, 1st Bn Cambridgeshire Regt who died 100 years ago on 24 Mar 1918 aged 23 years.

A short service was held in the Holy Trinity Church Coates and was conducted by the Reverend Nigel Whitehouse. Col. (Rtd) Tony Slater OBE the president of the Cambridgeshire regiment association read the Regimental collect to the congregation.

A brief history of Pte Fox was read by a member of the Cambs 876 Project committee before all moved to the graveside within the church grounds.

The Association Standard was carried by Major (Rtd) John Linkin who watched over the laying of poppy crosses by Col Richard Barnwell, DL, Col (Rtd), Tony Slater and Lt Col (Rtd) David Denson TD followed by two Cambridgeshire Army Cadets from the Whittlesey Detachment.

The Last Post and Reveille was played by an Ex Royal Air Force Bugler.

Deputy Commandant Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force Lieutenant Colonel Tony Cattermole, Captain Nigel Parry and SSI Sue Clifford represented the Whittlesey Detachment and Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force.

After the service a much-welcomed cup of tea and slice of cake was enjoyed by all.
