Sgt Major Phipps meets the Prince of Wales

Cambridgeshire Army Cadet meets Prince Charles.

The Prince of Wales came to Cambridge today as part of a Royal visit to a new laboratory.

Cadet Sgt Major Eleanor Phipps. Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet from Huntingdon Detachment, Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force supported the Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mrs Julie Spence OBE QPM for the visit. Eleanor was presented and spoke to the Prince of Wales as part of the civic dignitary line up.

Prince Charles visited the Whittle Laboratory in Cambridge this morning as Royal Founding Patron of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL).

The Whittle Laboratory, based at Cambridge University, was opened in 1973 by Sir Frank Whittle, whose original designs led to the development of the systems used today to power huge aircraft over long distances. The New Whittle Laboratory will be home to the National Centre for Propulsion and Power and is due to open in 2022 with funding from the Aerospace Technology Institute.

During his visit to Cambridge, Prince Charles was met by The Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mrs Julie Spence OBE QPM supported by Cadet Sgt Major Eleanor Phipps along with civic dignitaries.

Sgt Major Eleanor Phipps said ” I had an amazing experience of meeting Prince Charles today. Being able to talk to His Royal Highness and explore the facilities and initiatives of the work of this ground breaking laboratory was incredible….. I have so much gratitude for my appointment as a Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet and for opening these experiences to me”

Being no stranger to meeting Royal visitors, Eleanor has attended a number of other visits:

• The Duke of Gloucester’s visit to Radical Sportscars

• HM The Queen’s visit to NIAB

• The Duke of York’s Visit to the University of Cambridge’s Department of Civil Engineering

• The Princess Royal’s Visit to Hotel Chocolat.

The Lord Lieutenant appoints a number of Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets from a number of Uniformed Youth Organisations with a term of office lasting twelve months.
