Eleanor Phipps Becomes Cambridgeshire Pole Vault Champion

Eleanor Phipps took up pole vaulting in July 2014 under the watchful eye of her PV coach Richard Phelan at the Huntingdon athletics club in St Ives Cambridgeshire, by September she completed her first club in house competition, which was the final fixture of the pole vault season coming in 8th with a clearing height of 1.25m.  Being under 13 she was the clubs first female record holder in this category since the club was formed in 1967 and still holds that title now.

In 2015 she competed in the Club championship coming 1st with a height of 1.30m, due to other sports training and commitments this was the only recorded competition that Eleanor took part in.

In 2016 Eleanor took part in four competitions

She took 1st place at the St. Ives Huntingdonshire AC Club Championships on the 8th May with a clearing height of 1.70m

Eleanor came 2nd with a clearing height of 1.60 in a strong head wind on the 14th May at Peterborough in the Cambridgeshire County Championships

She then took part in the Sandy, Biggleswade AC Jumps Fest Open, on the 16th June coming in a joint 7th with a height of 1.80, a personal best against a tough field of pole vault athletes and again likewise, on the 24th September in another tough field of athletes and strong winds with a clearing height of 1.70 coming 11th

 

2017 saw Eleanor again taking part in four competitions

Kings Lynn, Norfolk County Championships ( Keith Ward Memorial Open)on the 29th  Jan ,this was her first indoor competition in PV and came first with a clearing height of 1.70m. She is the Norfolk county champion but not being a resident of Norfolk she cannot hold the title.

 May was a busy month.

St. Ives Huntingdonshire AC Club Championships on the 7th May where she came 1st with a clearing height of 1.70m. Eleanor then took home a pole vault gold medal in the Under 17 Women's competition on 13th May, clearing 1.75m and became the U17 Cambridgeshire County Champion 2017. A week later she competed at Luton in the Southern Athletics League and competed against adults and became joint first winner with a personal best of 1.90m

She has now taken up triple jump with a personal best of 8.24m on the 18th June coming 5th at the Anglian school competition. She then came 3rd at the Cambridgeshire Schools Championships on the 27th May, with a 7.94m jump

She has also competed in other Triple jumps within the club athletics circuits. Eleanor came 3rd at the Southern Athletics League in Luton on the 20th May, with a 7.73m jump competing against adults and finally coming 1st at the Huntingdon Club Champs on the 2nd July with a 7.73m jump.

The 2017 Club championship season has been a good one for Eleanor.  Coming 1st (Gold) in the shotput, pole vault, sprint hurdles, 1500m, high jump, triple jump and 2nd (Silver) in the 200m, Long jump, discus and hammer throw.  With these results she has been awarded the Huntingdon Athletics Club under 17 best Girls shield.
