John Shearer Shooting Competition

A new event in our calendar this year is The John Shearer Shooting Competition, named in honour of our previous commandant who retired due to ill health.

Cadets will compete in teams of four (one team per Company), for the honour of receiving The John Shearer Trophy, with additional prizes for best individual shots.

Each team will complete a total of 4 Practices; P1 - No. of shots 2 sighters and ten shots to count from 300m, P2 – Advance to Contact firing at 300, 200 & 100m, P3 – No. of shot 10 at two targets (5 shots at each) from 200m and P4 – Snap Shooting - Ten exposures each of 3 seconds from 200m

Capt Ross Haynes, Shooting Officer said “ This is a great opportunity to establish a new annual shooting event in the Battalion calendar which serves to promote shooting in the ACF whilst promoting teamwork, a competitive spirit and the drive to succeed. I’m delighted that Col (Retd) John Shearer, will be attending this inaugural shoot to present the trophy to the winning team.

This year’s competition will be held on 21st April, we look forward to what should be a hard-fought competition.
