Meet our two applicants for the ACF annual exchange exercise with the Royal Canadian Army Cadets (RCAC), Cpl Rachel Ervine and L/Cpl Jake Rahim. This exchange was established in 1972, every year 36 UK Army Cadets plus 6 CFAV Escort Officers are invited to travel to locations in Canada over the summer holidays. Both our applicants will attend a Brigade selection day this weekend.
UK cadets and CFAVs attend one of three, six-week RCAC courses during which they are fully integrated within the RCAC. Cpl Ervine aspires to join the Army as an officer and wants to attend the exchange for the physical and mental challenges it presents. If successful, she is looking forward to learning about the Canadian culture and practicing her French.
Our cadets are applying for the Cadet Expedition Instructor Course (Whitehorse and Argonaut) The objectives of this course are to provide cadets with the skills and subject matter knowledge required to be an instructor and team leader for expedition activities within the Canadian Army cadet program. Activities include first aid; navigation; survival; self-reliance; shelter building; cycling and canoeing; an 18-day expedition; adventure training; leadership; and instructional techniques. It’s an amazing opportunity and we wish them luck for the next selection day.
