14 February 2020
On the 10 - 14th February 2020 Cadet Corporal Ethan Glass and Cadet Corporal Andrew Hunter from E Company ventured on the CadetSki Bavaria course.
Both cadets travelled to Bavaria along with the Cadet Centre for Adventurous Activities (CCAT) and completed their Ski Foundation Level 1 (SF1), which is a 5-day introduction to alpine skiing. The content both cadets covered allowed them to develop their skills including: winter hazards, ski safety, sliding, snowplough, snowplough turning and piste navigation. This is linked to the fundamentals of control of speed & line, adjustments for snow & terrain, steering; edge, pressure & rotation control, body management; posture, balance, movements and co-ordination. The outcome for the course is for the candidate to demonstrate a competent level of alpine skiing skills as a member of a led group on alpine green/blue graded slopes, which in turn awards both cadets with the SF1 qualification.
Both cadets have not only gained the SF1 qualification, but have used the CCAT course for their Duke of Edinburgh Gold, which will count towards the Residential phase of the award and in addition the course will be used to count towards their 4 Star APC as an approved MoD Sponsored Course.
Certainly a worthwhile week for both cadets, all while having fun and developing their confidence.
CCAT offers a wide range of courses, all of which are available to all Army Cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, at a heavily discounted cost. If you would like more information, please visit: https://www.armycadetadventure.co.uk or speak to your Detachment Commander.
