Northern Ireland Orienteering Championships

Cadets from all over NI attended the event on a cold and wet day

2 February 2020

Well done to the cadets who braved a cold and wet day at the 38 (Irish) Brigade Cadet Orienteering Championships. Cadets from the Army Cadet Force and the Combined Cadet Force took part in the event organised by 38 (I) Brigade, Cadet Training Team (CTT).

The course was a challenging course along wooded tracks in some parts very muddy on the open ground, for many of the cadets it was their first time having a go at orienteering which combined moving as quickly as possible (running for some) and map reading. They had to find specified points that had an electronic point which they had to place their electronic tag on which is then could read by a computer and their score given.

The cadets all engaged with the competition with great vigour with some taking a bit longer to get a grip of the knack of getting all the points and mastering the map, but at the finish point it was all smiles even for those who managed to get covered in mud.

Due to the inclement and cold weather at the end of the event there was no prize giving, but the prizes will be published and presented by 38 CTT later.

Our thanks to some of the parents who assisted us with transporting the cadets due to the lack of minibus drivers being available, it is much appreciated.
