Cadet Sgt McKay - A Trip of a Lifetime to Argonaut, Canada

17 July 2019

Cdt Sgt McKay is now one week in to her 6 weeks on the Expedition course in Argonaut. After arrival in Hammersmith for an overnight she was whisked off early on Saturday morning for a series of flights before finally arriving at Argonaut in the small hours of Sunday.

Sunday was spent with camp orientation, bed making with the dreaded hospital corners, issuing of some kit and introduction to their Platoons and staff. Monday started bright and early with a fitness test comprising of a swim test, beep test, reach test, press ups and sit ups.

Tuesday and Wednesday was a Wilderness first aid course which will be valuable both on the expeditions and during the solo exercise yet to come.

Thursday was filled with on the job training, an opportunity to lead the younger Canadian cadets through their day of training and an opportunity for the cadets to grasp leadership skills as potentially one of the 12 UK cadets could get asked to attend next year as a staff cadet.

Friday entailed some expedition theory lessons which included navigation work in preparation for their 3-week expedition coming soon. Saturday included some abseiling off a natural rock face.

The accommodation is first class as is the food. One thing is certain, Sgt McKay is having the best Summer of her life.
