Junior Soldier Rowan Baker

Rowan joined G&P in 2019, and, progressing well, was in the midst of his 1* training when Covid-19 stopped face-to-face training. He left cadets in October 2020 to join as a Junior Soldier at the Army Foundation College Harrogate. His future plans are to join the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers - REME on an Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship. Rowan’s Detachment Commander at CYG, SSI David Pope, told us that he was a polite a courteous cadet, and a very valued member of the detachment. His determination and dedication to his goals have certainly paid off, and this demonstrates what a fantastic example he is to the younger cadets. His younger brother is still a cadet at CYG.

We are incredibly proud of Rowan and are sure that you will join us in watching his Passing Out parade, live on the Army Foundation College Harrogate Facebook page from 1000hrs on Thursday 18th February. We will be cheering you on Junior Soldier Baker, and know that you will do Gwent & Powys, your family and friends and the College proud! We look forward to hearing of your future successes!

“Army Cadets put him on this life direction path: if others could follow I think they would love it too. He’s got a full electrical engineering apprenticeship coming up, but the career and life options are immense. While it took some work getting there, the rest has been up to Rowan. They train girls and lads together: chances for all - medical, administration, aircraft technicians, logistics, endless options!”
