It is with great regret and sadness that I announce the passing of a Norfolk Army Cadet Force Legend, Major John Doughty (Rtd). John sadly and unexpectedly passed away on Saturday.

Norfolk ACF followers will remember John being the Public Relations Officer before myself along with Captain Jan Hawkins (Rtd). John and Jan were at the forefront of ACF public relations when the concept was formed and were very much part of its evolution. They were not only well known in Norfolk but across the UK ACF network.

For many, they will remember John for this PRO role but he had actually been a member of NACF since the 1970s man and boy and since being an Adult Volunteer he has been in most of the CFAV roles available including: Detachment Commander, Officer Commanding Britannia Company, County Training Officer and many more in between. Before retirement John worked for Norfolk Constabulary for many years specialising in traffic. Even when John left being a Police Officer, he transferred to the civilian side of Norfolk Constabulary and worked in their workshops at Wymondham.

Everyone at Norfolk ACF is very shocked and saddened to learn of the news but his name will live on within Norfolk ACF with the ‘Doughty Cup’ for the winner of the annual photography competition. Our sympathies to his family and friends at this difficult time
