SSI Ady Hazelhurst sets a challenge to cadets - will you take part?

23 February 2021

  • Greater Manchester ACF

SSI Debbie Callaghan, County PRO

Bredbury Detachment Commander, SSI Ady Hazelhurst, is often out running the hills around the area where he lives. He likes to encourage the fitness and well being of others and it was this that led him to wonder if cadets would like to join him in a challenge.

SSI Hazelhurst said “As a way to encourage cadets to take part in the ACF Running Competition. I propose on Saturday 27th February for as many cadets to take part in a best effort run wearing their army cadet t-shirt / hoodie.” (Not in uniform)

After running over 200 miles so far it is SSI Hazelhurst’s intention to complete a marathon on Saturday and end the competition on a high.

Who would like to join him in the challenge? (The run can be done as part of your daily exercise outdoors and please take care)

It would be great to get pictures of every cadet from Greater Manchester ACF who is taking part to send in a picture of you before, during or after your run. Whatever you manage to run will be another mile to help get the North West Region to the top spot in the National Sports Running Competition.

Please ask your parent or carer to send your pictures to 9711callag@armymail.mod.uk for sharing on our media sites.

If you haven’t registered, it’s not too late to take part as the competition doesn’t end until the 28 February. It is not an individual race. It is the miles that is needed to help the North West Region, of which Greater Manchester ACF is part of, win this.

The event is open to all Cadets, adult volunteers, & PSS from the Northwest.

All entries must be recorded on STRAVA - for those who are new to Strava please join the "North West Region Sports" page. When registering please register with your name and the first three letters of your county. Click on the following link to register on Strava. North West Region Sports (HQNW)

All distances need to be recorded in Miles not KM.

At the end of each day the miles run are recorded for each entrant and a total will be submitted at the end of the month where the winning region will be notified soon after. All runners will receive a competitor’s certificate.

The importance is to keep active and not to race. We need miles not speed.

Have fun whilst taking part and remember we can still win this!
