In July 2024, senior cadets from Lincs ACF visited the historic Naseby Battlefield, the site of one of the most significant battles of the English Civil War. This visit, proved to be an unforgettable experience that brought history to life in a way that books and online content simply cannot achieve.

The cadets were privileged to have Mark Linnell as their guide for the day. Mark's extensive knowledge of the Battle of Naseby, combined with his engaging storytelling and professional manor, made him the perfect guide for the day. From the moment the cadets arrived, Mark's enthusiasm was palpable. He meticulously explained the strategic manoeuvres, the significance of the battle, and the broader context of the Civil War. The cadets were captivated by Mark’s ability to weave together facts and anecdotes, offering insights into the lives of the soldiers who fought there. His explanations were not only educational but also deeply moving, providing a human perspective on the sacrifices made on that fateful day in 1645.

Visiting the Naseby Battlefield offers a unique learning experience that is especially beneficial for youth organisations like ours. Here, history is not just read; it is experienced. The cadets walked the very grounds where the battle unfolded, gaining a tangible sense of the past. This in turn transformed what on first appearance was a piece of British countryside into a vivid narrative that sparked curiosity and reflection. For the cadets, this visit provided an invaluable perspective on British history, that was tailored to the needs and interests of the group.
