Queens Platinum Jubilee

3 June 2022

  • Cumbria ACF

Last night, Cadets from Cumbria ACF attended Beacon Lighting ceremonies at Carlisle Castle and Murton Pike.
Thousands of beacons were lit by communities, charities and different groups throughout the regions of the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.

In Carlisle, the cadets escorted the Mayor of Carlisle as he carried the torch to light the beacon, in the front of the Castle. The Castle was floodlight in purple with a musical performance from Rocket Dance School, and the projection of beacons being lit across Hadrianā€™s Wall also taking place.

Penrith Detachment marched from Murton to meet villagers from Hilton in at a mid-point at the base of Murton Pike. Residents from both villages joined in the procession young and old. The villages also kindly laid on a BBQ with loads of food & cakes.

We then proceed to walk up Murton Pike and once at the top the Cadets sang the National Anthem and lit the Beacon. Following the lighting of the beacon, a fireworks display further marked the occasion. Cadets and volunteers from Penrith Detachment were joined at the top by locals from both villages and people from all over the local area.
